The man accused of shooting another man in the face early on Friday morning appeared before a magistrate 24 hours later.
Saturday morning at the Marion County Jail, a handcuffed Dustin Wayne Smith stood in front of County Judge LeAnn Mackey-Barnes while under suicide watch.
The Silver Springs male will be represented by the Public Defender office. Assistant State Attorney Yaveth Parodi informed the judge that his office has filed a petition to revoke Smith’s bond in an existing case against him. Smith was arrested in February for possession of methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia, according to local court records.
The judge informed Smith, who remained silent and gazed straight ahead throughout his hearing, that he will be detained without bail in the shooting case. She informed Smith that he cannot have any contact with the victim or return to the 1300 block of Northeast 15th Street, the location of the incident. His next court date is scheduled for November.
Yaveth Parodi Smith is being held on charges of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Since 2006, Smith has been in and out of prison, and his criminal record includes convictions for crimes such as robbery, burglary, and grand larceny. His most recent release was on September 20, 2022. His pending narcotics case began five months later, according to court records.
