As the upcoming rom-com superstars, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell may soon follow in the footsteps of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Pictures of the “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Euphoria” actors shooting a flirtatious scene for a movie in Australia were revealed by Entertainment Tonight on March 9 and immediately went viral online. While the specifics of the film are currently being kept under wraps, we know just enough to suggest that it will be one we don’t want to miss.
Sweeney and Powell have signed on to act in an untitled, R-rated romantic comedy that will be helmed by Will Gluck, according to a Deadline report from January 11th. Sweeney will work on the project as an executive producer as well. Meanwhile, the film will see Powell return to his romantic-comedy roots. After all, before he starred in the Oscar-nominated “Top Gun: Maverick,” Powell got his big break in the Netflix rom-com “Set It Up,” starring alongside Zoey Deutch.
Sweeney talked about the new movie in an interview with ET on March 22 but avoided giving away any plot details while giving fans a small taste of what to anticipate. “Just remember that the movie will be a lot of fun. It brings love, humor, and sex, she continued, adding that it is hilarious. It includes all the wonderful elements that make a movie. We also want to revive the classic Will Gluck rom-coms, and we’re having a blast doing it.”
If Gluck’s past films, like “Friends With Benefits” and “Easy A,” are any indication, this romantic comedy will become a timeless classic.
