over the time that he was on the run, a guy who was caught for the murder of an Army veteran in Uptown Dallas over the previous week may have shot two additional victims.
At this time, Corey Antwon Thompson is being held in custody on charges of murder in connection with the death of Roderick Butler.
There have been at least two further shootings that this convicted violent criminal may have been involved in prior to his conviction. There appears to be at least one that is random.
On December 20th, the individual, who is 45 years old, is accused of using a firearm to kill a guy in the vicinity of McKinney Avenue in Uptown Dallas.
There are now two more shootings that have been linked to Thompson, and one of them is a homicide.
During the six days when Thompson was on the run, both of these events took occurred.
“The Balch Springs Police Department is going to name Corey Thompson as a suspect,” stated Pedro Gonzalez, the officer in charge of the Balch Springs Police Department.
On Christmas morning, a white Lincoln SUV that was registered to Thompson allegedly rolled up on another vehicle and started fire, according to the Balch Springs police department. The individual who was sitting in the driver’s seat, who has been named as Francisco Jesus Manriquez, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head. None of his female passengers had any injuries.
According to Gonzalez, “She ducked down during the time that the shooting was taking place.”
The following is what she disclosed to the authorities.
“All of a sudden, this Lincoln pulls up and he starts firing into the vehicle without saying any words, without making any interaction or any communication,” Gonzalez further said. It was a shooting that occurred at random. The fact that it was not related to a robbery or an incident involving road rage is something that we are known to be true. It was a shooting that occurred at random.”
On the 20th of December, five days prior, the Dallas police department reported that Thompson had shot and murdered Butler.
The police at the time assumed that the shooting was an isolated incident.
“This is an isolated incident, and he was targeted for some reason,” said Jesse Carr, who works for the Dallas Police Department. “There is no danger to the general public.”
It has been determined that Thompson’s white Lincoln SUV is connected to the Christmas homicide that occurred in Balch Springs. Additionally, the Balch Springs Police Department has stated that it has been in communication with the Rowlett Police Department regarding a shooting that occurred in Rowlett that included a white Lincoln SUV.
Fortunately, the individual did not sustain any injuries, Gonzalez said.
There is a possibility that additional charges will be brought in the Balch Springs case in the near future.
Gonzalez continued by saying, “We are still waiting for evidence of ballistic missiles.”
In the past, Thompson has been convicted of multiple counts of violent assault.
At the time when the authorities claimed he was responsible for these recent shootings, he was free on bond.
These charges pertain to felony criminal mischief, misdemeanor assault inflicting physical injury/family violence, and misdemeanor terroristic threat of family/household. All of these charges are related to the same offense. The documentation for the $10,000 bail was signed by Magistrate Janet Lusk in the month of May.
For the time being, Thompson is being held without bond.
Although the Rowlett Police Department has verified that it is working on an incident with the Balch Springs Police Department, the department does not yet possess the evidence necessary to link Thompson to the event.
