On March 2, Meghan Trainor hinted that a new song called “Mother” would be released. In a film uploaded to YouTube Shorts, the singer—who is presently expecting her second child—shared a sneak peek of the song.
Trainor lip-synced to the song and danced in the brief video while wearing an enormous sweater that read “Mother Up” and mostly covered her growing belly. Later on in the day, though, she uploaded an Instagram video in which she danced to the song while cradling her growing belly and wearing a crop top. Riley, her young daughter, rushed in and out of the picture.
Meg “I am your mother / You listen to me / Quit all that mansplainin’, no one’s listening / Tell me who gave you the authority to talk / I am your mother / You listen to me,” are some of the incredibly poppy song’s lyrics. Trainor sings, “You simply a bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum,” referencing the Mr. Sandman iconic track in the song.
Together with Brooke Blewitt and Jess Qualter, creators of the TikTok dances, Trainor shared an official #IAmYourMother dance on Instagram the next day, on March 3. Although Trainor has not yet announced the release date for “Mother,” it’s fascinating to note that she previously released a song with a similar title in 2016 as a homage to her mother, Kelli Trainor.Trainor’s most recent single, “Made You Look,” was released in the same year as her last album, “Takin’ It Back,” and it reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in part because to TikTok’s popularity. With “Mother,” Trainor appears to be aiming for a like result.
Back in January, Trainor made her pregnancy public. Riley, who turned 2 in February, is already a part of her and her husband Daryl Sabara’s family. “Dear Future Mother,” a book by Trainor on pregnancy, delivery, and her early motherhood days, will be released in April. She also made a cameo appearance as a pregnant woman giving birth at home in the new season of “How I Met Your Mother” to be completely true to her brand.
