Anna’s son Tom makes a new friend named Sophie at school, and Anna agrees to meet Sophie’s mother. However, Anna is shocked when she recognizes Sophie’s mother as her high school enemy, Alice. Despite their past animosity, Anna tries to make amends and allow Tom to continue his friendship with Sophie.
During a playdate, Anna discovers that Sophie’s mother is also raising her daughter alone, giving Anna a sense of understanding and potential connection. However, their initial reunion is tense, filled with lingering bitterness and past hurts. Tom and Sophie remain friends, but Anna avoids Alice until one day when Anna receives a call from Tom’s teacher, leading to an unexpected confrontation between the two women.
Anna is shocked to learn that her son Tom has been bullying Sophie from school, despite her and Alice’s claims of their children being friends. Miss Terry, the school counselor, informs Anna of the situation, and Alice admits to lying about Tom’s behavior to protect her own feelings of jealousy towards Anna. Alice reveals that she had left her abusive husband, Scott, two years ago, and had been struggling with her own issues. Anna forgives Alice, and they reconcile with a hug, acknowledging their past struggles and the need to support each other as mothers.
