Current housing conditions in Moray Plans have been made for Dallas Dhu to perform in Forres

There will be a public display of the new plans for dwellings and student housing at Dallas Dhu that will take place at the Forres Town Hall that will take place the following week.

The development is a collaboration between the Moray Council, the Altyre Estate, and the Grampian Housing Association. It will consist of up to 180 dwellings and forty “bedspaces” for students.

According to Marc Macrae, who serves as the chairperson of the Moray Council’s economic development committee, everyone who is interested is strongly encouraged to attend.

“The previous engagement session that was held in summer 2023 was well attended, and I would encourage anyone locally who has an interest in the development, including businesses and individuals looking to build, to head along to the town hall on January 24,” said Cllr Macrae, who is a member of the Fochabers/Lhanbryde Conservative Party.

“Given the addition of student accommodation it’ll be worthwhile having a look at the updated designs and having a chat with the team.”

This development, known as Dallas Dhu, is a component of a larger initiative in Moray to construct homes that are both more inexpensive and more “carbon conscious.”

The Housing Mix Delivery project, which is one of the components of Moray’s Growth Deal, is worth £7.5 million. The Scottish Government is contributing £5 million to the project, while the moray council is responsible for the remaining amount.

The Dallas Dhu development was described as a “ambitious and innovative project to create an inclusive and sustainable community for the people of Forres and Moray” by Craig Stirrat, the Chief Executive Officer of Grampian Housing Association.

He further stated: “Access to affordable housing is at the heart of everyone’s wellbeing and therefore it is important that residents have to opportunity to consider and share their views on the housing proposals for Dallas Dhu to ensure we get it right.”

According to Sir Alastair Gordon Cumming, who is affiliated with Altyre Estate, “We are delighted that the first phase of the Dallas Dhu housing development is progressing well, and we look forward to working with our partners as we move to the delivery stage.”
