The grandmother meets her new grandson for the first time and holds him, making everyone present excited. However, her behavior becomes strange when it’s her turn to hold the baby. She walks away from the family, talking to the baby in a hushed tone, repeatedly calling him by the wrong name, Lucas.
Ben, the father, notices this and follows his mother. She claims that Lucas is the name of an old family friend, but Ben is skeptical. Later, Ben sees his mother crying alone in the corner of the garden. When he asks her what’s wrong, she asks him to let her be. Ben is convinced that his mother is harboring a secret and cannot let go of the name Lucas. Eventually, he finds an envelope with that name in his childhood home, hidden in a secret compartment in his mother’s cabinet.
Ben is surprised when he receives a letter and photographs revealing that his mother had a past relationship with a man named Lucas, who was actually his biological father. Ben’s mother, oblivious to the situation, returns home from Bingo to find her house lit up and enters to find Ben in shock. She explains that Lucas was his biological father but had died in the Vietnam War before Ben was born. p Ben forgives his mother and asks to meet Lucas but is told that it’s impossible as Lucas is dead. Later, Ben notices a strange feeling of recognition when looking at Lucas’s picture, which he later realizes is from his wife’s favorite bakery where the baker, who looks like Lucas, had worked before the war.
Ben visits his family’s old bakery, drawn to a picture of the original owner who bears a striking resemblance to him. Upon discovering that the old man, Lucas, is still alive, Ben is shocked and confronts him, leading to an emotional reunion between father and son. Lucas explains that he had been presumed dead in a war but was actually a prisoner of the Viet Cong for two years. Upon returning home, he found that his wife had moved on with another man, forcing him to make the painful decision to let her go and start a new life while maintaining a distance. The reunion is heartfelt, with Ben asking Lucas to be a part of his life again, and Lucas agreeing, bringing joy to the entire family.
Ben’s grandmother makes an unexpected entrance into the room where her newborn grandson, Lucas, is being presented. Holding a sandwich in her hand, she drops it upon seeing Lucas for the first time. The elderly couple, Ben’s grandparents, are overcome with emotion and rush into each other’s arms. Ben’s mother is shocked and asks if he would like to see his grandchild. The old man, filled with emotion, eagerly agrees. Lucas then holds his grandpa for the first time, revealing that he had longed for this moment for years. The family is left in awe as Ben also gains a grandfather and two uncles.
