Later this month, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez will meet with Human Rights Campaign.
The Pose star, who is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner, has been chosen to receive the HRC Visibility Award at the group’s Los Angeles event on March 25 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live.
“Michaela Jaé has made history as a transgender woman of color via her tremendous ability, bravery, and tenacity. She has also inspired millions of people all over the world. The LGBTQ+ community now lives in a more accepting and compassionate world thanks to her activism and artistic achievements, according to HRC president Kelley Robinson.
Rodriguez expressed her “overjoyment” at the distinction. “I do my best to set a positive example for LGBTQAI rights and all other human rights. Hence, it is very meaningful and gratifying to be acknowledged by an amazing organization that diligently works for the queer community day in and day out,” she continued.
Rodriguez is the first transgender woman to be nominated for an Emmy Award in the lead drama series category. She was presented with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award by GLAAD last year. By winning the same category Golden Globe for her role as Blanca in Ryan Murphy and Steven Canals’ Pose on FX, she also made history. Her other credits include Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick and Apple’s Loot with Maya Rudolph.
