Jonathan Majors’s forthcoming film role has been canceled due to the attention it received following his recent conviction for assault.
Variety has verified that the actor will no longer portray the controversial basketball player Dennis Rodman in the film whose working title is “48 Hours In Vegas.” The news was first reported by CNN.
The film is slated to chronicle the actual events surrounding the infamous journey of the Chicago Bulls’ power forward to Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA finals.
Additionally, Lionsgate has withdrawn from the project, as the production company returned it to the creators in order to secure a fresh collaborator. For Lord Miller, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood will serve as producers, while Rodman, Ari Lubet, and Will Allegra will serve as executive producers. It is anticipated that Jordan VanDina (“The Binge” on Hulu) will pen the screenplay.
On December 18, Majors was found guilty of two misdemeanor charges, namely harassment and assault, which occurred during a domestic dispute with Grace Jabbari, his former partner. On February 6, he will be sentenced; he could receive a year in prison, but probation or another reduced term of imprisonment is also a possibility.
Majors is reportedly no longer under consideration by the studio for the development project “Da Understudy,” which Spike Lee was previously in talks to direct, according to sources with knowledge of Amazon.
Majors was dismissed from future Marvel Studios endeavors on the same day that he was found guilty.
Majors commented on the case during a “Good Morning America” interview following his conviction, stating, “I am present when the verdict is rendered. “I inquire, ‘How is that even possible?'” How could that be possible, considering the evidence presented, including that of the prosecution and our own?
