The “Wicked” movie is finally happening after more than a decade of tries. Ariana Grande will play Glinda the Good Witch in the movie, which will be directed by “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights” director Jon M. Chu, and Cynthia Erivo will play Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.
With a shared Instagram post on March 26, Grande and Erivo gave fans a preview of what to expect in “Wicked.” The actors shared a carousel of images of the two of them together, showcasing the friendship they’ve grown since the movie’s filming began. The pictures were labelled “up to (no) good”
We can now see the entire cast of “Wicked” in its entirety since filming for the film has begun. On 9 Dec.In 2022, the movie also included Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, Aaron Teoh, and Colin Michael Carmichael. Deadline broke the news first; Universal did not react to POPSUGAR’s earlier request for comment. The publication also appeared to confirm Jeff Goldblum’s casting as the Wizard, which had been rumored for weeks at that point before the actor revealed it during his appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in March 2023.
Just the day before Deadline’s announcement, the movie added yet another superstar to the cast: Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible. Yeoh won her first-ever Oscar award at the 2023 ceremony for her role in 2022’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Chu revealed on Twitter that he texted Yeoh, whom he previously worked with on “Crazy Rich Asians,” to ask if she wanted her “Wicked” part.
Back in September 2022, we learned that “Bridgerton” heartthrob and Olivier Award–winner Jonathan Bailey will also appear in the film as the story’s main love interest, Fiyero. Chu confirmed Bailey’s casting on 21 Sept., 2022, via Twitter. “He’s perfect, they’re perfect. They’d be perfect together. Born to be forever,” Chu wrote. “I am too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening. We have a Fiyero!!!! #JonathanBailey #Wicked.”
