A UN report published on Thursday claims that Russian forces have broken both humanitarian law and international law numerous times in Ukraine.
In a press release on Thursday about the United Nations’ Independent Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, the U.N. stated that the war crimes included assaults on rivals and energy-related infrastructures, willful killings, illegal detention, torture, rape and other sexual violence, as well as unlawful transfers and deportations of children.
The report makes a big deal about the indiscriminate nature of Russian bombardments and the targeting of civilians.
“Russian armed forces have carried out attacks with explosive weapons in populated areas with an apparent disregard for civilian harm and suffering,” the U.N. said in a press release. The attacks violated international humanitarian law because they were indiscriminate, excessive.
