On a Friday morning, the auditorium at Thomas J. Rusk Middle School was packed with pupils, and gift bags were distributed to a total of 120 students.
The seventh-grader Mariel Carreon expressed her gratitude by saying, “I was not expecting this, but I am so grateful for this.”
Rusk’s Winter Wish Lists encompassed the pupils in question. They were selected by the professors on the basis of their requirements. Homelessness is something that has been experienced by a few of the pupils at Rusk Middle School.
“I’ve overheard students saying that this was going to be it, or that they weren’t going to have a Christmas,” said Gail Neale, a school counselor for the eighth grade at Rusk. Due to the fact that this was Christmas for a good number of them. For them, today was the day of Christmas. It was very exhilarating to witness them taking pleasure in their presents and to observe the grins that appeared on their faces. I found it to be moving.
Teachers and staff members have been known to purchase presents for the pupils in previous years. This year, employees of Southwest Airlines took it upon themselves to fulfill the wish lists of all 120 children from the company.
“It makes me feel, like, really happy that they spent their time just to get stuff for me and everybody else,” Averee Robinson, who was in the eighth grade, said with a smile that stretched from ear to ear with excitement. “They didn’t have to; they wanted to show kindness to us.”
Among the gifts are bicycles, footwear, video games, clothing, and other items. Students received both the things they desired and the things they required.
In his words, “It’s like giving me a lesson,” Carreon remarked. After that, when I am an adult, I will be able to give back. We have everything that I got given to us, and we may do the same thing to other children.
In his words, “Life is not always about you,” Neale stressed. Give is the key to success. Taking care of one another and watching out for one another is the essential component of this.
