The Dubai Police has relaunched its Ramadan campaign to prevent the usage of fireworks

The Dubai police have resumed their annual Ramadan campaign warning people about the risks of using illegal pyrotechnics, saying that doing so can result in serious fines and even jail time.

The ad, with the tagline “Remember… Fireworks are more harmful than you believe,” intends to inform the public about the risks associated with using pyrotechnics, particularly during celebrations during the holy month.

The campaign focuses especially on how crucial it is to prevent people from directly handling fireworks because of their hazard.

In order to reach as many members of the community as possible, Butti Ahmad bin Darwish al-Falasi, Director of the Security Awareness Department, stated that the campaign will raise awareness using social media platforms, outdoor advertisements, and direct email messaging.

Al-Falasi emphasized the risks associated with fireworks, which can result in loss, amputation, and burns to body parts as well as lasting disability. According to scientific research, fireworks are to blame for 15% of eye-related injuries, 16% of face and ear injuries, 6% of chest injuries, 10% of forearm injuries, 30% of hand injuries, and 23% of leg injuries.

In its first article, Federal Decree-Law No. 17 of 2019 concerning weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment, and hazardous materials defines explosives as a chemical compound or a combination of different chemical compounds that react with one another under the right circumstances to produce pressure, heat, and a specific speed, causing an impact or damage to the surrounding area, including fireworks.
