The family of a new mother who was murdered at the age of 17 speaks out, saying, “She was so happy to be a mother.”

Police have taken into custody a man who is 17 years old and is suspected of shooting and killing a high school junior who was also 17 years old in Southern Dallas early on Sunday morning.

A statement was released by the Dallas Police Department on Monday afternoon stating that they were searching for Trevon Darnell Wright, who is 17 years old, in connection with the murder of Ikea Imari Hood, who was 17 years old. Hood was a mother to a three-week-old newborn girl and a junior at Lancaster High School.

On Monday, a warrant for Wright’s arrest was issued for the crime of murder, according to the police. During the course of Tuesday, a United States Marshals Task Force apprehended him and transported him to the Dallas County Jail for further processing.

The amount of the bail has not yet been determined, and it is not clear whether or if Wright has retained legal representation to advocate on his behalf.

At around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, officers from the Dallas Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Grambling Drive in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a woman who seemed to have been shot.

She was eventually determined to be Hood, and she passed away as a result of her injury.

The seven siblings of Hood, along with other members of the family, are coming together to express their sorrow and sadness over the passing of the stunning and talented young woman.

Sister Jalaya Williams remarked that her sister was “goofy, funny, and she always had us laughing.” What a famous person Kea was! She was the epitome of everything.

While attending Lancaster High School, the young lady, who was then 17 years old, was a member of the Tigerette Drill Team, which was the school’s drill team.

When asked about her aspirations, dance instructor Quinta Gossett-McVay stated, “She wanted to graduate, go to college dance on the collegiate level, and she really had that ability and could have accomplished that goal.”

Hood was a kind and attentive new mother above anything else. It had been three weeks since she had given birth to a baby girl who was given the name Ice’Lynn.

She stated, “She was so happy to be a mother to Ice’Lynn, to be her mom, to go on this journey, and to figure out how they could figure out their way together.” This was not a violent Kea. She did not have a passion for aggressive activities; it was not who she was. We find it hard to believe that she was taken away from us in such a brutal manner and at such a young age.

The motivation for the shooting has not been disclosed by the Dallas Police Department, nor have they offered any information regarding the relationship between Wright and Hood. Ongoing inquiries are being conducted into the shooting incident.

“She was shot in her home,” her sister reported that she was told. “She was taken away from her three-week-old daughter after she was shot in her home,” the statement read.

According to Hood’s relatives, Wright is the father of the baby and has been Hood’s partner on and off all these years.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown to her family; however, Williams claims that she had a conversation with Wright a few weeks ago, during which he seemed to be in good health.

Williams stated, “We are dealing with two children who have recently given birth, and their emotions were running high.” I wish I knew more about the situation, but I am unable to determine whether or not it was related to domestic violence.

The family, according to Williams, is concentrating on being present for the arrival of Ice’Lynn.

“I had my first night with her last night, and it was a very difficult night,” she added. “It was a terrible night.” “She has not been sleeping at all… The woman is not eating. “She longs for her mother.”

Upon their return from winter break on Monday, January 8, the Lancaster Independent School District announced that they will be offering counseling and bereavement services to both the students and the staff at the high school.

“The untimely passing of our student, Ikea Hood, has left Lancaster Independent School District in a state of profound grief. We will be offering counseling and grief services for students and staff members who have been impacted by this tragedy,” the district stated in a statement released on Sunday. “Her death is a significant loss for our district.” “Our thoughts and prayers are with her entire family and the Lancaster High School community.”

In conjunction with the celebration of Ikea Hood, a balloon release will be place on Wednesday afternoon at Lancaster High School. It is requested that attendees are dressed in pink and white.

At the Eternal Rest Funeral Home, funeral services are scheduled to take place on Saturday.

For the purpose of contributing to the costs of funeral services and critical items for the infant, the family has established a GoFundMe account.

All of us are joining together to make sure that Ice’Lynn is aware that this is your mother, because she was truly remarkable. For me, she was everything. She had feelings for you. “She desired to be in your presence.”
