The live-action “The Little Mermaid” film from Disney has us prepared to descend beneath the waves. Details about the movie have been leaking out since since it was first revealed in 2016. The R&B duet Chloe x Halle member Halle Bailey, an actress and singer, was revealed to be portraying the title role in July 2019. When the COVID-19 epidemic caused production delays, shooting finally began in early 2021 and was completed in July of that year. Disney unveiled a brand-new teaser for the film on February 15th, giving viewers their best look yet at Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula, Jonah Hauer-Prince King’s Eric, and Ariel’s vibrant underwater environment.
Disney initially debuted the movie’s teaser trailer at D23 Expo back in September 2022. Beautiful images of Ariel swimming in the ocean are shown in the teaser, which also includes the famous “Part of Your World” soundtrack. The song is partially sung by Bailey in the teaser. Disney played the entire “Part of Your World” segment for the audience throughout the event.
“I hope we can just recapture some of the magic from those kiddie movies.”
In an interview with POPSUGAR in November 2022, Bailey discussed the response to the trailer at the time. She stated, “I just feel incredibly honored that I got to take on a role like this. Sometimes I really want to pinch myself.
She also thinks that the nostalgia of the live-action movie will appeal to the audience. She continued, “I hope that when the movie eventually does come out, everyone enjoys it and genuinely likes it, because I did my best. I just hope that we can bring back some of that childhood movie magic.”
Bailey also spoke on growing up and identifying with Ariel in Variety’s 2022 Power of Young Hollywood article, which was released in August “I could relate to her sense of yearning and her quest for self-awareness. She was not going to allow anyone stop her because she knew where she wanted to go.”
