The suspect in a shooting in Uptown Dallas has been apprehended and charged with homicide.

A 45-year-old suspect has been apprehended by the police on suspicion of shooting and murdering a man in Uptown Dallas.

Tuesday, Corey Antwon Thompson was apprehended in the vicinity of N. Hampton Road and Bickers Street. He had been released on parole following a prior apprehension.

Thompson was charged with the murder of 46-year-old Army veteran Roderick Butler on Dec. 20.

Police previously said they believe Thompson targeted Butler near a strip center off McKinney Avenue and Pearl Street.

Butler’s body was found on the sidewalk outside of a bank.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, video footage of the incident showed the suspect walking up to Butler and shooting him in the face with “an assault style rifle.”

Photos released of the gunman show the suspect carrying a gun, wearing blue latex gloves, a hoodie and a mask.

Police said they tracked him down because a woman called police saying a man matching his description tried to rob her.

She gave information about his vehicle, which was connected to a previous interaction with police.
