The topic of how frequently we should wash our bedclothes has long been hotly contested, but now the same discussion may also be necessary about our pillows and duvets.
Duvets should be laundered every few months, or at least twice a year, and pillows every other month, according to Good Housekeeping.
However, a horrifying video that is now on viral TikTok shows a woman who washed her husband’s pillows for the first time in five years that people have compared the dirty pillows to “tea bags.”
A woman who goes by the username pwincesslexx on TikTok documented the process of washing her husband’s pillows to return them to their original white color after they had turned brown.
Lexi captioned the video, “Stripping my husband’s favorite pillow after five years.”
After adding washing detergent and scent-enhancing beads to the bath’s already-hot water, Lexi first adds the two brown-stained pillows to it. After that, Lexi covers the pillows with OXI Clean stain-removal powder and waits a day for the combination to really soak in and wash away the grime.
The TikToker checks in periodically to demonstrate how the mixture is performing. The bathwater starts to turn brown after two hours and then gets darker after eight hours and after fourteen hours.
After the full 24 hours, it can finally see how dirty the pillows were, as the bathwater is nearly black and there are still black streaks and grime after Lexi empties the bath.
