Former President Donald Trump is still vying for reelection in 2024 despite having just received a historic indictment. For the upcoming weeks and months, this is where things will start.
He is who? A former US President, a well-known businessman, and a person who is currently on trial for a crime (you already know the scenario).

Why all the fuss? There is certainly plenty to be written about the significance of a former US President being prosecuted. However, there are two key aspects that are currently at play: one legal and one political. Both of these will contribute to shedding some light on how Trump’s political ambitions may develop in 2024 and beyond.
Domenico Montanaro, senior political journalist for NPR, provided some insight into the dynamics of the situation on Morning Edition:

What next? Well, as Domenico said, this is one of several criminal investigations Trump is facing. Here are the others:
There are two investigations by the US Department of Justice: one into Trump’s handling of classified documents after the end of his term as president; and another in his role in the January 6 riots in the Capitol.
There’s also the Georgia probe, which focuses on the actions of Trump and his allies after the 2020 presidential election as they pressured state officials to reverse his loss in the Peach State.
Regarding those 34 offenses, prosecutors said they hoped for a January 2024 trial. The defense has asked for spring 2024.
