The main vocalist of the indie rock band Cage the Elephant, Matt Shultz, was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm on Thursday at a hotel in Manhattan, according to authorities.
According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Shultz, 39, was detained on Thursday morning when a Bowery Hotel employee observed him take a revolver out of his pocket in one of the hotel’s public restrooms.
According to the Manhattan Attorney’s Office, Mr. Schultz, a Nashville resident, seemed to be drunk.
In response to a 911 call, police officers acquired a search order and, according to the court, discovered two loaded guns, one of which was a Smith & Wesson.

According to the prosecution, officers also discovered six handwritten messages and 11 Polaroid images of the guns, some of which featured a hand pointing at the weapons. In essence, one of the letters stated, “I would defend myself if assaulted,” according to the prosecution.
Mr. Schultz is accused of possessing multiple firearms, according to court filings. On Wednesday, he is scheduled to appear in court. Sanford Talkin, his attorney, declined to comment on Sunday. If Mr. Schultz had been freed on a $30,000 bail was not immediately clear.
Cage the Elephant, a rock band that was founded in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 2006, is well-known for its psychedelic sound, obvious nods to earlier rock eras, and Mr. Shultz’s melodic, occasionally violent vocals.
The group’s debut album was published in 2008, and “Social Cues” earned them two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album. For its album Tell Me I’m Beautiful, it received its first Grammy in 2015.
According to Billboard – Charts Grammy Awards, the band’s 2011 album “Thank You Happy Birthday” opened at #2 on the Billboard 200, while the album’s lead hit, “Shake Me Down,” scored #1 on Rock Songs and Alternative Songs.
According to the Grammy Awards, Mr. Schultz worked as a plumber and at a sandwich shop before the band was founded.
