According to reports, Dan Quinn’s three-season tenure as defensive coordinator for the Cowboys following his dismissal as head coach of the Falcons in 2020 has reportedly repositioned him favorably for another head-coaching opportunity.
However, subsequent to the Packers’ shocking 48-32 drubbing of the Cowboys in the NFL playoffs, which was the first-ever victory by a No. 7 seed over a No. 2 seed, attention swiftly turned to the question of whether Quinn’s boss Mike McCarthy would retain his position as Cowboys head coach, and whether Quinn himself could be considered a viable candidate to succeed him.
Conversely, Jay Glazer, an NFL insider for FOX Sports, predicts that teams seeking a head coach will continue to aggressively pursue Quinn irrespective of McCarthy’s status in Dallas.
“Four other teams have already placed Dan Quinn on their list,” Glazer stated on the FOX NFL postgame program on Sunday. “I maintain the opinion that Dan will continue to be a touted candidate throughout the league.” “He will remain in the lead notwithstanding the outcome of this individual game.”
The Commanders, Panthers, and Chargers have purportedly all scheduled interviews with Quinn, and he has been heavily linked to the current opening with the Seahawks since longtime head coach Pete Carroll resigned last week, although Glazer did not specify which four other teams were in consideration.
Quinn, who formerly worked in Seattle as Carroll’s aide and was the defensive coordinator during the renowned “Leigon of Boom” of the Seahawks, which culminated in two Super Bowl victories following the 2013 and 2014 seasons, achieved its pinnacle. In 2016, Quinn also guided the Falcons to the Super Bowl.
One horrifyingly timed and executed performance in the postseason does not negate Quinn’s sterling track record, which has persisted throughout his tenure in Dallas, as Glazer noted.
