In a 4-0 victory at Minnesota, Murray records his first career shutout and the Stars score two short-handed goals

Matt Murray recorded his first career NHL shutout on 23 shots, and Dallas snapped a three-game losing skid with a 4-0 victory at Minnesota on Monday night. The Blackhawks scored two short-handed goals.

Murray secured his second victory in the NHL during his fourth career contest. The Alberta native, who was not selected into the draft at the age of 25, attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst for five years before claiming the national championship in 2021.

Tyler Seguin and Roope Hintz each contributed to Dallas’s scoring and assisting.

The Stars’ penalty kill, which ranked fourth in the NHL at 85%, was flawless on six Wild power-play opportunities.

Dallas (23-11-5) has scored nine special-teams goals in two contests against Minnesota (17-18-4) this season, including an 8-3 triumph on November 12.

With sixteen saves under his belt, Marc-Andre Fleury fell short on his first opportunity to surpass Patrick Roy and claim exclusive second place on the NHL career wins tally. Saturday in Columbus, Fleury’s 551st victory was equivalent to Roy’s.

At the 10:44 mark of the first period, Hintz one-timed a no-look, backhanded pass from Seguin that was intercepted by Fleury while the Wild was on the power play. In his previous nine contests against Minnesota, Hintz has accumulated 14 points while leading the Stars in scoring with 16.

Radek Faksa scored a second goal with the extra man in the third minute. It was Dallas’ ninth goal attempted with a short bench of the season, which tied for second in the league. Jason Robertson contributed to the game-winning strike.

The Stars overcame Minnesota’s 47-second, 5-on-3 advantage following Hintz’s goal and emerged from the first half with a 1-0 lead despite being outshot 13-4.

Seguin’s right-point wrist shot early in the third period evaded Fleury’s right armpit and was initially disallowed on appeal. However, the video goal judge reversed the decision, and 1:28 into the final period, the score was 2-0.

Punditated with harm Marcus Foligno returned to Minnesota following a two-game absence. On Monday, the following players remained unavailable: defensemen Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon, goalie Filip Gustavsson, forwards Kirill Kaprizov and Vinni Lettieri.
