According to the Glendale (Colo.) Police Department, Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant won’t be prosecuted for the Instagram video he posted in which he looked to be wielding a gun inside a nightclub.
On Wednesday evening, police released a statement on Morant. Morant will be absent from the squad for “at least” the next four games, the Grizzlies added on Wednesday.
According to the police announcement, the Glendale Police Department was unable to find probable cause to file any charges.
The Grizzlies’ most recent two games were missed by Morant, who apologized after posting the video early on Saturday. Morant has “no schedule” to return, according to coach Taylor Jenkins, who informed reporters on Sunday.After the Grizzlies’ Friday loss to the Denver Nuggets in Denver, Morant uploaded the video of himself. He was rhyming along to the music while holding what appeared to be a gun in his left hand. Then, Morant deleted his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
The [police] did not get any calls for service at the nightclub involving a weapon of any kind on the occasion in question, according to authorities.
“No disturbances were thereafter reported, and neither locals nor club customers spoke up to voice their displeasure. The investigation also came to the conclusion that no one was harmed or threatened by the gun, and that it was never actually found.”This season, Morant, 23, has averaged 27.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 6 rebounds per game. In the previous season, he averaged a career-high 27.4 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and two-time All-Star was chosen for the second team of the NBA in 2021–2022.
Also, he was the focus of an article published on March 1 in the Washington Post that described two instances that involved Morant and led to police investigations last summer. In them, no arrests were made.
The Grizzlies have dropped their last three games. On Thursday and Saturday, respectively, they will host the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors. The following week, they will play away games against the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks.
