We’ll soon learn which fortunate actors, directors, writers, crew members, and films will get Hollywood’s highest honors at the upcoming Oscars. Those who follow the Oscars have spent months watching movies and making predictions about which ones will become members of the elite club of Academy Award winners.
There are a record number of first-timers among the acting category nominations this year, including Brendan Fraser, Barry Keoghan, and Stephanie Hsu. 16 of the 20 acting nominees got the nod for the first time overall. Paul Mescal, for example, has stated he doesn’t expect to win (he even told the Evening Standard in February that he is cheering for Colin Farrell instead).
Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis join Hsu in receiving nominations for their roles in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” making up nearly the entire main cast. With a total of 11 nominations, the film is poised to have a historic night at the awards ceremony now that the Oscar precursor ceremonies have concluded.
These are our predictions for who will win big on Oscars night — and why — while we wait to see the complete list of 2023 Oscar nominees.
