Four of Dallas’ leading goal scorers—Joe Pavelski, Roope Hintz, Tyler Seguin, and Jason Robertson—scored in Wednesday night’s 7-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild, securing a home-and-home sweep and the season series.
Hintz scores seventeen goals to lead the Stars, while Pavelski and Seguin each have sixteen, and Robertson has fifteen. This season, Dallas is the first NHL team to have four players score at least 15 goals.
In addition to Nils Lundqvist’s goal and assist, Matt Duchene and Sam Steel each scored in support of the Stars, which spoiled the NHL debut of Minnesota goaltender Jesper Wallstedt.
Wallstedt, who is 21 years old, recorded 24 saves. The Wild have a seven-game losing streak at 1-6.
In order to provide a break for Marc-Andre Fleury, the 39-year-old who tied Patrick Roy for second place on the career victory tally with 551 last Saturday, Wallstedt was promoted from Iowa of the AHL. Fleury had started five consecutive games (4-0) and appeared in six consecutive contests since the injury to Filip Gustavsson on December 30.
Scott Wedgewood made 21 saves for Dallas against Minnesota, which is 7-0-3 in its last ten meetings. Esa Lindell contributed three assists, while Mason Marchment contributed two.
On Monday night, Wedgewood was absent in Dallas’ 4-0 victory at Minnesota, where call-up Matt Murray recorded his first NHL shutout in his fourth career game and season debut.
The Wild received goals from Matt Boldy and Ryan Hartman, who also added an assist.
By a score of 19-5, Dallas swept the three games against Minnesota Wild.
Due to injury, Fleury substituted for the Minnesota Vikings, who were without leading scorer Kirill Kaprizov and other critical players.
“We are delaying the parades,” said Pete DeBoer, head coach of the Stars. “In my opinion, we responded appropriately to that team and managed to secure victories in two games.” “Performed some remarkably commendable actions.”
Wallstedt, whose parents had traveled from Sweden in order to attend the game, expressed his apprehension about starting.
“A lot of pucks were just bouncing off me,” he commented. “I didn’t feel like I could catch anything.”
He stated, “Individuals may use Swedish profanities and the like when they de-ice,” while maintaining his composure throughout.
Pavelski converted a 1-0 advantage for Dallas in the final seconds of the first period. Later in the second period, Hintz’s goal during a four-on-four period gave the Stars a 3-0 lead. Robertson scored with the score tied 4-1 in the middle of the third period. Seguin scored in the third minute, at 16:10.
Dallas has had Wedgewood start eleven of its last twelve games since All-Star Jake Oettinger was hampered on December 15 due to a lower-body injury.
Early in the third period, Baldy prevented Minnesota from suffering its second consecutive shutout when Brock Faber’s high-pass attempt deflected off his shoulder and past Wedgewood.
