Daniel Duarte, a right-handed reliever, was acquired by the Texas Rangers from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday for cash.
Duarte recorded a 3-0 record with a 3.69 ERA across 31 appearances across five stints during the previous campaign. The Reds designated the 27-year-old for assignment on Saturday, when they finalized a one-year, $3 million contract with Brent Suter, a free agent pitcher.
Duarte, whom the Rangers initially acquired from Mexico in 2013, appeared on the opening day roster of Cincinnati in 2022 but appeared in only three games. He concluded 2023 on the injured list with a shoulder issue and missed the majority of that season with an elbow injury.
Duarte, who made his professional debut in 2015 with the Texas organization, spent the previous season splitting time between Cincinnati and Triple-A Louisville. He recorded a 4-0 record with a 3.34 ERA while in the minors.
