There is a new obstacle that Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson must overcome. It is a petition to remove him from office known as a recall petition.
However, the activist who is behind the drive intends to bring attention to the reasons behind Johnson’s success, despite the fact that the odds of success are stacked towards Johnson.
The activist in question is Devante Peters, who is based in Dallas and operates a health goods store within the South Oak Cliff neighborhood. His argument is that Mayor Johnson has let down the people.
The mayor of our city is not showing up for work. “The fact that he switched parties was unquestionably a driving force as well,” Peters stated.
Johnson was a Democrat while he served in the Texas House of Representatives prior to competing for mayor, and he was always considered a Democrat during his first term as mayor. Despite the fact that elections in Dallas are non-partisan, Johnson was a Democrat during his time in politics.
Johnson made the announcement in September 2023 that he would be switching to the Republican Party after he had won a second term in May 2023. This occurred shortly after the Dallas City Council had rejected his proposal to significantly reduce the amount of property taxes.
A petition requesting Johnson’s resignation was started by Democrats in Dallas County, and it has received approximately 2,000 signatures since it was distributed online.
